First Stage CBT (CBT-I):
(a) The CBT-1 will act as a screening test, serving to shortlist eligible candidates for CBT-2 based on normalized scores and merit.
(b) Marks obtained in CBT-1 will not be considered when preparing the final selection panel.
(c) Candidates from OBC, SC, and ST categories who are shortlisted for CBT-2 by utilizing relaxed age criteria will continue to be treated as reserved category candidates throughout the recruitment process.
(d) Exam Pattern and Syllabus for CBT-1:
- Duration: 60 minutes.
- Total Questions: 75. Maximum Marks: 75 (1 mark per question).
- Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
- Normalization: Marks will be normalized for exams conducted in multiple shifts.
- Minimum Qualifying Percentage: UR & EWS: 40% , OBC (NCL): 30% , SC: 30% , ST: 25%
6. Question Standard: The level of questions will align with the educational or technical qualifications required for the post. Questions will be objective, multiple-choice format, covering topics as per the syllabus specified for the exam.
RRB ALP CBT 1 Syllabus
(A) Mathematics: Topics include Number System, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar and Clock, and Pipes and Cistern.
(B) Mental Ability: Focus areas include Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding-Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagrams, Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Conclusions, Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning, Classification, Directions, and Statement-Argument.
(C) General Science: Covers topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences at the 10th-grade level.
(D) General Awareness: Includes current events, science and technology, sports, culture, prominent personalities, economics, politics, and other relevant topics.
Second Stage CBT (CBT-II):
(a) Candidates will be shortlisted for CBT-2 on an RRB-wise and community-wise basis, based on their normalized scores and merit from CBT-1.
(b) The total number of candidates shortlisted for CBT-2 will be approximately 15 times the number of vacancies announced for each RRB.
(c) The Railways may adjust the shortlisting ratio as needed to ensure an adequate pool of candidates for the vacancies.
(d) The final selection list for the ALP position will be based on scores and merit from CBT-2 and CBAT.
Exam Pattern and Syllabus for CBT-2:
1. The exam will have two parts: Part-A and Part-B.
2. Total Duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes. Total Questions: 175.
- Part-A: Duration 90 minutes; 100 questions.
- Part-B: Duration 60 minutes; 75 questions.
3. Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
4. Normalization: Marks will be normalized for exams conducted in multiple shifts.
5. Part-A Minimum Qualifying Marks:
- UR & EWS: 40%
- OBC (NCL): 30%
- SC: 30%
- ST: 25%
6. Marks scored in Part-A will be considered for shortlisting candidates for subsequent stages of recruitment, subject to community-based eligibility.
RRB ALP CBT 2 Part A Syllabus

(C) Basic Science and Engineering: This section includes topics such as Engineering Drawing (Projections, Views, Drawing Instruments, Geometric Figures, Symbolic Representation), Units and Measurements, Mass, Weight, Density, Work, Power, Energy, Speed, Velocity, Heat, Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Education, and IT Literacy.
RRB ALP CBT 2 Part B Syllabus
(A) Qualifying Nature of Part-B: Part-B is a qualifying section, focusing on questions related to the specific trade syllabi as prescribed by the Directorate General of Training (DGT).
(B) Qualifying Percentage: Candidates need to score at least 35% to qualify in this section, irrespective of their community or category.
(C) Trade Syllabus: For detailed syllabi of different trades, candidates are advised to visit the official website of the Directorate General of Training (DGT) at https://dgt.gov.in.
(D) ITI/Trade Apprenticeship Candidates: Candidates with ITI or Trade Apprenticeship qualifications must answer questions specific to their trade in this section.
(E) Degree/Diploma Candidates: Candidates with a Degree or Diploma in Engineering must select one trade from the list of trades corresponding to their engineering discipline.

RRB ALP Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT):
(a) Candidates will be shortlisted for the CBAT based on their scores in Part-A of CBT-2, with the number of shortlisted candidates being up to eight times the number of vacancies for each community/category (including UR, OBC (NCL), SC, ST, EWS, and ExSM). This will be subject to meeting the qualifications in Part-B of CBT-2 and adherence to reservation rules.
(b) Shortlisted candidates must present their Vision Certificate in the prescribed format (as per Annexure-VI) in original during the CBAT. Candidates failing to provide the certificate will not be allowed to appear for the test.
(c) It is mandatory for candidates to pass each test battery section of the CBAT separately to qualify.
(d) The CBAT will be conducted only in English and Hindi, and there will be no negative marking.

(f) Qualifying Marks: All candidates must secure a minimum T-score of 42 marks in each test battery of the CBAT to qualify, regardless of community.
(g) The merit list will be prepared only for candidates who pass the CBAT. The final merit will be based on 70% weightage for Part-A marks from CBT-2 and 30% weightage for CBAT performance.
